Presenting our final poster for ALEXROSSI’s Je Te Prends 7″ Single. “Je Te Prends” translates to “I take you,” which is used in many different contexts throughout the song. The artwork was inspired by Lisa’s fond memories of the 1956 fantasy short French film, The Red Balloon.

New Year Card 2012

We are very happy with how our 2012 New Year cards turned out. They have been mailed (mostly) and the response has been really positive. It nicely compliments last year’s universe theme and makes light of the Mayan impending doomsday predictions. Now the challenge is producing something even better next year!

We just completed our second poster print for Bleeding Gold Records. This 12×12 poster will be included with the limited-edition 12″ of Golden Glow’s Tender is the Night. The simple design utilizes the idea of a “golden glow” to capture the underlying theme of isolation found throughout the record.

The third of our Chinese New Year series, the 2011 Year of the Rabbit is finally here. It’s actually been done since February, but we are a bit late in posting. Luckily, we still have a lot of 2011 left, and much to celebrate. I think we both are quite excited about the color palette of this year’s print, which is always one of the tougher parts of working on these posters. We really wanted to bring back more of the transparency from the Year of the Ox, but with a more muted tone for the rabbit. It’s hard to believe we’re on the third year of the series…only 9 years to go to complete it.

The Notes Poster Final

Posted: October 26th, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: Final Prints, The Notes | Tags: , , , | 66 Comments »

We are excited to present our most recent project, a 10″x10″ poster for inclusion with The Notes– Wishing Well limited edition 10″ EP on Bleeding Gold Records. The final illustration/design was inspired by the band name, title of the album, and lyrics. This 2-color print marked our first foray into laying light ink on dark paper. It was also our largest run yet, culminating in 100 prints (not including the mess-ups!). It was a lot of work and time, but we couldn’t be happier with the results.

Cubes Final

This project ended up being a playground for experimentation. After screening a few “safe” prints, we let loose and began to layer layers of ink on top of one another, play with ink transparency, combine interesting colors, and intentionally mess up ink pulls to achieve randomness and texture. It was a lot of fun and even therapeutic to work so intuitively. We are quite happy with the large variety of result that we got out of just two screens. -JM

Mess is More!

Posted: June 21st, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: Final Prints, Mess is More, Process | Tags: , , | 73 Comments »

This past weekend we decided that it was time to push our experimentation. With our open studio coming up this Saturday, creating some t-shirt designs to wear seemed like the perfect opportunity. Starting with a very basic type design, we then went on to intentionally mess the screens up as much as possible during the burn process, which resulted in unpredictable, but amazing shirt designs (Lisa gets credit for coming up with the “Mess is More” line).

The process involved under-washing, scratching, spot-brushing on emulsion remover, re-coating part of the screen, re-burning that part of the screen, then more random washing and scratching. This may all sound very complicated, but in the end it was all intuitive and just naturally developed as we went along.

There is no way we could have pre-planned the beautifully random results. -JM
